KBC Meeting #25 — Crime and Punishment, Part 1

To begin: we had our icebreaker hosted by Rujay in which opposing teams — Crime and Punishment — competed in a trivia game based on the titular book. Team Crime won, however narrowly. Some might argue unfairly. This was our first meeting at the Peace Gardens. Overview: picturesque, water fountain in the back, a bit out of the way, ample seating, and some complaints about warmth.

This was a day of firsts: our first discussion of a fiction book, and we had 3 first-time attendees 🙂. Welcome Glen, Jordan (Johnson), and Devonta. We’re excited to see you all again! The discussion questions were largely uncontentious and the tone was a lot calmer compared to some of our previous books. A quick poll revealed that the book is well-regarded!

Two notable bits of the discussion were that there was a lot of room for interpretation on the purpose of the letter written to Rodya by his mother, and which character best fit the role of the “mare”.

Petra did a fantastic job as our moderator today, while Yours Truly hosted the discussion. We largely kept on track! For this book we’ll be looking to do 8 as opposed to 6 discussion questions. Looking forward to seeing you next week!

Thank you for your attention to this matter !!
